Ramadan for Pregnant and Nursing Mothers

Your Health Matters! 🤰

Islam doesn’t require you to harm yourself or your baby!

The problem: Guilt — “I should fast even if it’s hard.”

The solution: Know the rulings — Allah gave you concessions!

The Ruling

If fasting harms you or baby:
– You MAY skip (don’t fast!)
– Make up later (Qada!)

If fasting doesn’t harm:
– You SHOULD fast (it’s obligatory!)

Scholars agree: Health comes first!

When to Skip?

Skip if:
– Doctor advises against
– You feel dizzy, weak, faint
– Baby’s movement decreases
– You’re dehydrated
– Severe nausea/vomiting

Don’t risk your health or baby’s!

Qada or Fidya?

Scholars differ:

Opinion 1: Qada only (make up later!)
Opinion 2: Qada + Fidya (make up + feed poor!)
Opinion 3: Fidya only (if chronic!)

Safest: Make up the fasts later (Qada). If unable, Fidya.

Ask a scholar you trust!

Tips If You Fast

  1. Suhoor — eat WELL (protein, complex carbs!)
  2. Hydrate — 10+ glasses (Iftar to Suhoor!)
  3. Rest — nap in afternoon!
  4. Monitor — baby’s movement, your energy!
  5. Break if needed — don’t be stubborn!

Tips If You Don’t Fast

Don’t feel guilty! Allah gave you this concession.

Instead:
– Feed a poor person daily (if doing Fidya!)
– Worship in other ways (Quran, dhikr, charity!)
– Make intention to make up later!

Your reward: Intention + concession = rewarded!

For Nursing Mothers

Same rulings as pregnancy!

Extra tip: Breastfeeding dehydrates — drink EXTRA water!

If milk decreases: You may skip (baby’s nutrition matters!).
